Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
5th degree assault minnesota
I was charged with 5th degree assault 609.224 subdivison 1 (2) in MN in July of 2006. This was a 1st time offense. Can I still posses a firearm? Will I be turned down for jobs because of this?
Thanks

Re: 5th degree assault minnesota
If you pled guilty or were convicted by guilty verdict, your right to possess a firearm would then depend upon numerous other factors -- for example, whether it was a "domestic" assault, whether you had a prior, the type of firearm, etc. If the charge is still pending, then retain a good lawyer and try to get it dismissed.
Employers mostly can hire who like. Many will avoid hiring a person with a conviction record. Some occupations requiring licensing may be precluded due to a conviction.
