Re: 4th Degree assualt
A fourth degree assault is very serious and can result in jail time. Certainly, self defense is a viable defense to the charge. however, significant efforts must be made to acquire any corroborating statements and/or video evidence. A concivction may have long lasting implications and may often prevent a person convicted from obtaining employment or even renting an apartment.

You should retain the best criminal defense lawyer you can, as soon as possible.
Felony assault is a serious crime, with huge, negative implications on your civil rights and your future employment and annual income levels.
While it sounds like you may assert a "self-defense" defense, you and your lawyer will need to consider the "duty to retreat" and seek witnesses and evidence to support the self-defense claim.
