Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

Arrest Warrant

I recently received a speeding ticket and I had a suspended license. I was to appear in court 3 weeks after the ticket. I missed my court date... I would like to know what the minimum, and maximum penalty for this offense

Re: Arrest Warrant

"Speeding" is most commonly a "petty misdemeanor" violation, not a crime, with a maximum penalty in Minnesota of $300 fine plus government surcharges. It can, however, be charged as a misdemeanor crime -- maximum penalty 90 days county jail and $1,0000 fine plus surcharges. There is no minimum penalty for speeding. The penalty is up to the judge, if you go to court on it. As for an arrest warrant for missing a court date -- in come counties you can pay to get another court date and get rid of the warrant; in other counties/circumstances you would need to turn yourself in to the local jail and get "booked," then go to court as an "in custody."
