Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
Assault
I was in an altercation over the weekend where and individual attacked me, tearing my shirt and hitting me in the head and chest. I retaliated and broke his nose and face with a punch and kick. I sustained no injuries however he wants to press charges on me. Am I in legal danger?

It is always possible that you could be chharged with an assault. It is difficult for police to know the particular circumstances of a case when the witnesses consist primarily of the two combatants. If the other party claims that you were the aggressor or if it appears that you had the ability to retreat but did not do so, you may be charged with assault.
