Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
I was charged with 5th degree cont. substance. (Cops found 2 empty bags of meth in trash of room). Enough resin on bags to charge me. This is a first felony and no prior blemishes on my record.? What will be my sentence?

Impossible to say for sure. Couple things to consider though. The crime you're charged with should probably be only a gross misdemeanor if it was committed after August 1 of 2016. The law was changed to reduce the punishment for this type of crime. If the crime was committed before then, you may still have an argument to say that you should receive the lesser punishment. It's also possible that your attorney will be able to negotiate for something called a stay of adjudication. That would be a disposition that keeps their criminal conviction off of your record. Best thing to do right now is to consult with a couple of criminal defense lawyers and get one retained.
