Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

clean record

I am charged with 5th degree assault. I have a clean record. Stitches were involved so there are medical bills. Prosecutor will not accept disorderly conduct. Would it help my case to pay bills up front before the trial to help my charge get lessened?

This is the type of thing I often do on behalf of clients (negotiate settlement of out-of-pocket loss, and potential restitution claim). I think it quite helpful.

However, I don't think it would be a good idea to attempt to do this without a lawyer representing you. Much better if the lawyer represents you, to seek an early settlement for you. Why? One reason is that anything you say could be admitted in court against you later, while this is less of a problem if your lawyer helps you work it out.
