Re: criminal law

Many of my clients over the years have been people who qualified for the public defender or had one, but wanted me instead. Someone else had to help pay their legal fee. Public defenders are modern day heroes, working hard in a over-taxed system with too many clients. If it's important consider retaining a good private lawyer who can spend more time on your case than a public defender can.

Re: criminal law

If you qualify financially, you may be able to seek apublic defender. You make your application when you appear for court.

If you wish to hire private legal counsel, which is often advisable, you set up a consultation.
