Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

The other day two plain clothed men and a uniformed city police officer came to our front door looking for our adult son who has a warrant for his arrest. They did not identify themselves nor did they show us any form of picture ID. My husband stepped outside of our house and shut the door behind him. I went out through a side door and shut the door behind me as well. We told them that he was not here. One of the plain clothed officers kept asking if he could go in the house to do a body search and we told him NO. He said he had a warrant and that he could do a body search without permission. We still told him no. He proceeded to go past my husband on the front step and enter the house on his own, the others followed. As they entered, my husband "YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO ENTER MY HOUSE FOR ANY REASON".......they searched through the house, one made a comment about a teddy bear being on the bed of our son's room and when they were satisfied that he was not here, they left. I thought they only had the right to enter under the following circumstances: they are chasing after the suspect who runs inside, OR they have a search warrant OR they have permission from the homeowners. Please advise me on the legalities of this situation. Thank you!!
