Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

Hi, two days ago my boyfriend and I got into an argument that got pretty heated, I slapped him and he slapped me back. The police were called since we were being loud, loud enough for neighbors in our apartment to hear. The police took my boyfriend in. Two days later (today) was his court date, I went to it, they allowed me to speak, and told him to stay off alcohol, and continue with his probation, and issued a no contact order. I am in no way threatened, I want to be able to choose who I contact, and I want to be able to support him while he gets the help he needs. How do I go about removing this no contact, what is the best way to sound to the judge, should I let them know I still want to be with this person. etc...Sorry my question mark button is broken on my keyboard, but these are all questions..

It's frustruating, I would like to talk to my boyfriend, and if he tells me he doesn't want to talk to me, I will respect that, but the system is not allowing me and closure, or any support for what I want. I just want to be able to talk to him. I don't know

Hopefully your boyfriend has a lawyer. Under no circumstances should you have contact with your boyfriend because it will likely get him in more trouble.

You should contact his lawyer, his lawyer should then have him attend a domestic violence assessment. After he has completed the assessment, and possibly some counseling, you and his lawyer can coordinate a court hearing, present the information to the Judge, and the no contact order could might get lifted.

If he doesn't have a lawyer, he needs one, and you should also get a lawyer.

Hopefully this helps. Good Luck

Ross
