Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

Here is the deal:

My friend Samantha is 20 years old and she is living in her parents apartment. She decided this college school year she is going to get her own place and she signed the lease a couple days ago. She told her parents about it yesterday and they freaked out. Her mom and dad are both in agreement that she "can't leave." They took her phone away and the only way she is making contact with me is through Facebook. My question is: if she were to try and leave and her parents "caught" her and wouldn't let her leave could she legally call the cops and if they wouldn't let her call would they be in any legal trouble. Also if we were to go there because we weren't hearing from her could they call the cops on us and get us into legal trouble- for being outside the apartment.

Samantha can legally leave the house any time she wants. If her parents are not allowing her to leave the house, she has the right to call the police. If they stop her from calling the police they are committing a serious crime (interfering with a 911 call).

Although it is generally best to have family situations resolved without involving the police, Samantha is 20 and legally an adult. She has the right to leave the house and move into her own place.

If you went to the apartment to see Samantha, her parents could call the cops on you. However, you would not likely get into legal trouble unless you refused to leave or if there were prior trespassing complaints. Samantha's desire for you to be at the apartment would also lessen any likely legal issues.

She is 20 years old and if not the subject of a conservatorship, she make decide where she goes and when. If detained, she can seek assistance from police or a restraining order from the court.
