Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

drug posession

so me and 3 friends go to a park we are all under 21 and 2 of my friends were drinking so the security guards come to the car and are giving them breathalyzers when they find a joint in one of their pockets they get consent to search the car and find a case containing about 115 grams of marijuana which i know is a felony amount so they start question nobody knows where this pot came from right away they assume it belongs to the kid who has the joint so they cuff him and take him up for questioning they ask all of us a bunch of questions and the owner of the vehicle claims it wasnt hers and someone had to have put it in her car the night before at a party so the cop says to my friend whos 18 that hes either getting the felony or the car owner is so feeling bad that he had the joint and got everyone in trouble in the first place he says ill take the blame but it wasnt mine... so they take him to jail... 1) how much trouble could he get in 2)what can he do being the pot really wasnt his and 3) being he said ''ill take the blame but its not mine'' is he screwed?

I recommend you watch the DVD "Busted!" available at:

It goes through scenarios like the one you describe, and offers good information on how to protect yourself.

Is he screwed? Of course not. "Never say die."

I don't want to write a book here. As for playing "Monday morning quarterback," it's a bad idea to consent to any searches -- ever -- and it's a bad idea to answer questions for police without your lawyer present first.

As for helping the situation in the future, the only way to do that is to retain the best criminal defense lawyer possible, and begin to work, and be patient for the needed outcome. I am often successful in representing people in such cases.
