Re: Expunge a Misdemeanor

If you were convicted, you are seeking a juducuak expungement, This is critical, since the judge has the discretion to expunge only judicial records or ALL records. An expungement of only judicial records may mean that the source where most background checks are conducted, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, will still maintain the record. As a result, how you present the case is critical.

As is the case with many legal issues, you can try to do this without a lawyer. But, it would be a lot harder. I suggest that you consult with an attorney about the issue.

Yes. Most if not all legal cases for individuals can be handled without a lawyer. Of course, an experienced lawyer would normally be better able to do it right. There are many ways an expungement petition can be mishandled, sometimes making the situation worse than before, sometimes not effectively sealing all the public records out there.
