fake id with savings bonds
6 months ago my boyfriend went into a bank with a fake id to cash $1,000.00 worth of savings bonds that where in a dead guys name. now the cops are looking to talk to him, what kind of trouble can/is he be in? what kind of charge is this? is is fedreal?

I am afraid the consequences can be steep. At a minimum, he is looking at felony fraud or felony theft which can carry with it significant prison terms. Identity theft is also a postential charge.
The case could be federal. However, given the limited amount in controversy, that would be very unlikely.
He should decline to make any statements to legal authorities and should consult with legal counsel immediately.
