Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
my father has stolen pain medication from my mothers home and we have proof if we press charges what is the minimum sentence he will be facing? and like wise what is the common sentencing he would face as a first time offender?

First, only a prosecutor may press charges or dismiss charges. They may do so whether or not the alleged victim wants that to occur.
Second, if you believe a crime has been committed, you report it to police.
