Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
I have a friend who is dating someone convicted of Domestic Assault-Misdemeanor. The story he told her was that his pregnant girlfriend was hitting him, he pushed her away, she called the cops and he was arrested. He pled non-guilty, a month later changed his plea to guilty. The story he tells is that the only reason he pled guilty was so she wouldn't go to jail. Would that have even been possible, or would she have only been arrested if he pressed charges?

Once 911 is called police will take over and generally disregard the wishes of whoever called 911, as will prosecutors. A criminal defense attorney can often help turn that around with persistent effort, however.
