high school mock trial.
i have a mock trial in a high school law class and need to convict someone with 1st degree murder. however all the evidence proves 2nd degree murder. she was married to an abusive husband and after feeling threatened she shot him in his sleep.

That is based upon a famous case we studied in law school. If you are the prosecutor, identify evidence which can be used to argue an inference of guilt, on the elements of the crime required to prove murder 1. Prepare to negate a self-defense defense (he was asleep). Argue against "self-help" street justice (see recent O.J. case). Look at the act itself and break down the act into as many component parts as possible to emphasize time, planning, etc.
