Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
Incest
A friend of mine was molested by her father and brother at seperate times for several years. She reported her father
in 1995 but not her brother, to the millelacs county family services and they did nothing but go and talk to both parents. She is now worried about other people they may be hurting (she knows her sister was also molested by both), and future generations! What can she expect going to them again? What are their legal obligations? Can she press charges? Are there other actions she can take?
Any resources or information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Incest
Victims of sexual assault face many challenges. In addition to contacting county social services for to report and for assistance, they may be able to provide referrals to victim advocacy and support groups and agencies. Sexual Assault victim services agencies can be a great help, since they tend to know the territory better, and often can provide valuable insights and sometimes advocacy. She can report a crime to the local police. She cannot "press charges" -- only the local criminal prosecutor can charge someone with a crime, based upon police investigation. This is a big topic -- one that I cannot fully address here. She may need to be persistent to get some results.
