kidnapping/sex offender
how can a person charged only with kidnapping have to report his address for 10 years as a sex offender?

Such determinations are controlled by the sex offender reporting statute which specifieds listed offenses where reporting is required. If the offense was charged as a sexual offense original, even a plea to a lesser offense would result in a reporting requirement.

Minnesota Statutes Section 243.166, subd. 1b (1) (ii) requires "predatory offender" registration if charged with kidnapping and convicted of that or any other offense arising out of the saem set of circumstances (even if no sex crime was ever charged).
For my past clients in this sitation, I have sometimes been successful in avoiding a conviction or in making a plea deal involving a plea to a different charge from different dates of alleged offense. This has worked.
