Just out of curiosity, what is the minimum number of years served when someone is sentenced to prison for life?

Minnesota Statutes section 244.05, subd. 4 provides for "minimum imprisonment, life sentence." There are more than one. Other than one unusual crime (treason), the minimum imprisonment term for a life sentence is either 30 years; or -- forever, until death (for certain "heinous" crimes, listed in Section 609.106 for example 1st degree murder, with a prior conviction for a "heinous crime").
