Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

MIP of Adderall, first offense

My 17 y/o stepdtr was caught purchasing Adderall in Isanti cty, no other history of drug use, criminal history, or school issues. Her mother poorly communicates with dad (both have joint custody). Dad has entire summer parenting time out of state.

1. How do we find out about court date? How long does it take for courts to notify parents? (It's been 3 weeks)

2. If the court date falls on dad's parenting time, can it be changed? How? We have no knowlege if ex-wife has lawyer and she would not assist/agree in us changing the date, due to her animosity towards dad.

3. What is the likely punishment?

Generally, it is better to wait patiently for a Summons to court, rather than to ask to be charged quickly. The longer it takes, the better.

Courts are generally willing to work with scheduling conflicts, within reason, if contacted soon after the notice of court date.
