misdemeanor theft

Good day. I was caught with shoplifting and charged with a misdemeanor theft in Minnesota. I am very scared and concerned of what is going to happen to me. This is my first offense and I have a clean past history. I also have served 4 years in the military and currently still in the reserves. I am also a good student too as well. What I am trying to imply is that this is not my character and was an honest, stupid mistake that i will regret for the rest of my life. I can't afford a lawyer and in desperate need of guidance. What can I face and what should I do? I am really scared of what is going to happen to me, please advise. Thanks.

Thank you for the post. A mosdemeanor thefyt is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $1000 fine. If you have a clean record, and depending on how the theft occurred, there are many potential ways to preserve your record.
