Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
Misdemeanor Theft?
I helped a guy throw a couch in a dumpster that belongs to a business. There is video of this. I received a call from a detective about this. Do I have to talk to the detective. What are the consequences? I don't live in the city where this took place either.

Re: Misdemeanor Theft?
I am not sure that I understand. Do you mean that the couch was owned by the business? If so a charge of misdemeanor theft is possible. If there was an entry to a building unauthorized, it could be charged as a burglary.

No, you do not have to talk to police or anyone else about it, and normally you should not. Consult a lawyer about it to be sure. (Call me if you like.)
