Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

When my mom was married to my dad, they went out to a lake on a boat. My mom jumped out to swim, even though my dad told her that he didn't want her to. My mom wasn't a really good swimmer and she started to drown and was begging for help. My dad left her there to die, telling her that God wanted her to die.

Now, jumping 26 years from then, me and my father don't have a relationship. I don't talk to him unless I have to. He just sent me a message telling me, "I brought you into this world, and if you keep ignoring me, god is going to take you out of it." I'm creeped out because of what he did to my mom. I feel like he's one of those people who would kill "in the name of God". Is telling me God is going to take me out of this world considered and actual illegal threat?

If a person believes someone has threatened them with harm, they can report it to police. The threat alone might be enough to prosecute, or not, depending upon circumstances. But, police can be on alert for the threat either way. And the person threatened could take reasonable precautions for personal safety as well as self-defense.
