Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
Police report is made, can it be stopped?
If someone files a serious police report.
Is there away for them to stop it from going forward without getting into a lot of trouble themselves?
Say they have a change of heart or felt coerced into filing the report, but now they do not want someone else who is innocent to be sought by the police anymore and the file dropped.

If there is sufficient evidence to charge the matter out, it is unlikely that there is anything that you can do to prevent that from occurring. However, your reluctance or recantation as part of the defense of the case may be critical. That is particularly true if this is, as I suspect, a fifth degreee assault matter.
