Possession of Marijuana - small amount

I'm 24 yrs. old and I just got a ticket for a small amount possession of marijuana, this is my first offense and I need to get it expunged or some how dropped. I am trying to go back to school and having this on my record would ruin everything especially trying to get a job!

My question is:

What exactly should I do? How serious is this charge? Do I need to get a lawyer? How much is this going to cost me?

Thate charge is not particularly serious, but it can have collateral consequences with regard to your record and howit impacts future employability. Often, with representation, you may be able to seek a Stay of Prosecutrion and avoid any type of a record, whether that is a petty misdemeanor, which is not a criminal offense or a misdemeanor.
