Prescription Forging

I have a friend in Minneapolis, MN who is forging prescriptions for Adderall (a highly addictive amphetamine used in the treatment of ADHD) for her own personal use. She does not have ADHD but she doctor shopped till she found a doctor who would prescribe it, then used the prescription she received as a template to forge additional prescriptions.

She's taking two to three times the maximum recommended dosage of the drug by getting the forged prescriptions filled at several pharmacies and her friends (myself included) are becoming worried and have approached her about getting help with her addiction but she seems unable to stop.

My question is this: What are the legal penalties she could face if she's caught? I'm hoping that knowing the possible ramifications of the lengths she's going to will help her see just how much she needs help.

She would be charged with a fifth degree felony possession charge. Depending onhow many prescriptions and whether she has a prior criminal record, the sentence may vary. If she has no criminal record, an attorney may often be able to get her into a diversion program where she would be placed on probation and would have to seek treatment and provide urine samples to ensure she is not using. If she follows thorough, it is likely she can escape with no criminal record.
