In a situation such as this, the full facts with all details ought to be known as a starting point. Re. 'pressing charges', whether or not criminal charges are made is a decision made by law enforcement. Be aware that in some situations wrongdoing may be both criminal and civil in nature, or one or the other, too, of course. Should you face some personal issue I urge you to secure attorney counsel for yourself, as appropriate. Urge: Be wary of 'free advice'.

Only a prosecutor may press criminal charges. If you believe a crime has been committed, you report it to police.
