Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
I have a question about balisongs in the state of Minnesota. I want to know what is legal and illegal about balisongs, like carying, owning, purchasing, ect. I want to make sure before I just go and purchase one.

Such law is complex and involves some 'grey', ambiguity. I urge you to get
a formal private opinion from a well experienced attorney at this time so
she can advise you in great details based upon the full facts of your
personal situation.

It is not illegal to own or carry a butterfly knife per se. The law makes it illegal to own a switchblade, but the term is poorly defined. it is illegal, however, under 609.66 to carry a dangerous weapon. A Dangerous weapon is also poorly defined and could encompass the balisong if recklessly handled or carried for an unlawful purpose.
In other words, it is probably a bad idea.
