I regularly represent people acusse dof shoplifting. Unless they have similar prior offenses, or the amount of loss is quite high, jail is likely. The goal normally is to keep their record a clean as possible, and to obtain an outcome subject to expungment one day. A clean record can be worht millions of dollars over a person's lifetime.

Even if convicted, jail time is not likely. However, a theft ofefnse can certainly create a criminal record that can impact your ability to find employment in the future or to qualify for scholardships, loans and other important benefits. As a result, having a strong defense is very important.
