Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

Sex with a minor

My 14 year old daughter got pregnant by her 18 year old boyfriend. He is a high school student and they started dating before he turned 18. I am divorced from my daughters dad and I think he may press some sort of charges. He was aware of the relationship and allowed. I would like to know what might happen to this young man who now will have a child to care for.

Re: Sex with a minor

If convicted of a sex crime like this, such as "statutory rape," a person would be a convicted felon, be incarcerated for a long time, have to register as a sex offender, and could be expected to suffer a significant loss of income, while in prison and for life - in addition to sex offender "treatment" and restrictive conditions of probation.

First, on;y a prosecutor can press charges. Any person may report the conduct and, once reported, it would be charged as a criminal sexual conduct felony and a very serious one at that. A person convicted would be required to report as a sexual offender, submit to a psychosexual evsaluation, submit to a polygraph and may be restricted in many respects from being around minors.
