Re: sex offender registry

Minnesota Statutes Section 243.166, subd. 6 specifies a "registration period," which depends upon various factors, not stated in your question. Even so, it seems conceivable your son may still be required to register. A spearate issue could be, even if not now required to register, did he commit a crime by failing to register in the past? Even if the answer to that question were "yes," another question could be "has he been charged with a crime as a result, in Minnesota or elsewhere?" Th answer to that question could be yes or no - but would be important to find out.

Re: sex offender registry

Where was he charged withr his failure to register.

A failure to register is a felony offense and does carry with it a presumptive jail sentence if convicted. As a result, it is extremely serious. The reporting requirements vary based on offense, but generally, any change of address must be reported five days before any relocation occurs.

If this is charged in Minnesota, please call 612.240.8005 for a consultation.
