Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
Stay of Prosecution
Regarding a Disorderly Conduct charge; what does it mean to negotiate for a dismissal towards a stay of prosecution? Is there simply a fine to be paid, a class to be taken, and/or something else to expect? Is the charge still recorded as a misdemeanor until the end of a probationary period if one is given?

Re: Stay of Prosecution
If a case is resolved without a guilty plea, for dismissal at some future date provided certain conditions are met in the meantime -- this is sometimes called a "continuance for dismissal" (of the charge), a "agreement to suspend prosecution," deferred prosecution, pretrial diversion... The name can vary depending upon local practice, but the key is "no guilty plea."
