How much time can you get for 1 degree assault but the person dies

There are not a lot of details here, but if an individual is charged with first degree assault they could face up to 20 years in prison

But if the person dies, and they can tie the death to the assault, the person could be facing murder charges, the maximum penalty being life in prison
