How much time do you have to press charges after an assault has happened?

Only a prosecutor can press charges, you cannot. Whether charges are filed depends on the strengths of the case. The longer you wait after an assault occurs, the weaker the evidence is likely to be and the less likely it is that charges will be filed. You would report the assault to police.
