Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

vehicle search

I've had my vehicle seized due to someone fleeing in it(i borrowed my car out)-i have given all info i have but since i will not consent to a search they are still holding my vehicle until they get a search warrant-how long do they have to come up w/ a search warrant or hold my car if i am not the suspect? Do I have any rights? They did not catch any one in my car and they waited almost a week after they obtained the car to contact me and give me any info--i called for a week straight now its going on 2 weeks and i need to know if there is anything i can do to get my property back.

Re: vehicle search

If your car was used in the commission of a crime (fleeing a police officer, for example), it can be impounded and searched. Depending on the nature of the underlying criminal behavior, and a variety of other factors (the condition of the car, whether it is believed to have been used for transporting "contraband", etc.) it could be held for an almost indefinite period.
