Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
Violation of Harassment Restraining order
No criminal record. Nothing illegal in my past. I
had a harassment restaining order placed on me by an
ex-girlfriend. We had an argument, I continued to
call and email. Never threatening. She claimed I was
harassing her, thus the order. While it was temporary
I accidentally sent an email to her and left a message
on her answering machine telling her I was sorry and
that it was an accident. This was Nov. No contact
since and I didn't contest the order. What do you
think my punishment will be? What should I be
prepared for. I've very scared a

Violation of a restraining order is a misdemenaor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $700 fine.
THe penalties may depend largely on your Judge. Given the circumstances you describe, it is possible to have the charges reduced to something far less serious or dismissed pursuant to an agreement to stay prosecution.
