Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

Will I be able to get off probation early??

I was given 2 years probation for possession of controlled substance. I have 1 year left (September 2017) (my only thing on record), I have completed my 50 hours community service, I have been in compliance, passed every drug test, and now tomorrow morning I have to take a Rule 25 assessment for probation and I have only $200 left on my $3,000 fine, once this Rule 25 ( chemical assessment) is done is it possible for me to try and get off probation early? My original charge was in Illinois and I had my probation transfered to Minnesota ( Ramsey County ) which obviously got approved or I wouldn't be here now, but I just need insight on if it's possible and what steps need to be taken, if possible. Thanks!

When someone is on probation to the court in the sentencing state court, then moves to another state with approval and is supervised by a probation department in the new state, the sentencing state court still decides whether the conditions have been met or not, and can consider a request for early discharge. So it would be up to the Illinois Court to decide. A Illinois criminal lawyer would be familiar with Illinois court practices and history. In Minnesota, it would be unlikely for a court to consider such a request unless all conditions of probation that could be completed, were already completed, including payment of all monies owed. The probation officer and the probation office recommendation would be influential. In Minnesota two years probation on a felony would be shorter than normal. It seems more difficult to get probation discharged early when the probation period is already short. Best wishes and good luck in your request.
