Thank you for your post.
First, there are several diffrerent types of criminal sexual conduct offenses tha fall under the category of felony. All are extremely serious and carry with them potential lengthy prison sentences even on a first offense. A first degree offense carries with it a presumptive (usual sentence) of over 12 years.
Second, regardless of whether you have the charge reduced, if any case results in a plea, even to a lesser offense, the person convicted must report as a sex offender for a minimum period of 15 years. As a result an aggressive defense is necessary.
Finally, with an aggressive defense, statements of witnesses are attacked, competency of youthful witnesses is challenged and if successful, the prosecutor will often offer a plea to a lesser offense. Even when that occurs, it is often adfvisable to proceed to trial and prevail on the merits where such a significant consequence exists to a conviction.
