DUI specialty license plates
Do I have to have special dui plates on a car we recently bought together even though I didn't know him when the violation occurred several years ago? If so, where do I go to get them?

The short answer is "no." But that does not mean the state will not try to impound your plates. if they do, you have remedies and may fie a swworn statement with the commissioner seeking the return of your plates. If that fails, you may seek administrative or judicial review.
Minnesota Statutes sec. 169A.60 indicates that with respect to a plate impoundment order, the following applies:
The order must require the impoundment of the registration plates of the motor vehicle
involved in the plate impoundment violation and all motor vehicles owned by, registered, or
leased in the name of the violator, including motor vehicles registered jointly or leased in the
name of the violator and another. The commissioner shall not issue an impoundment order for
the registration plates of a rental vehicle, as defined in section 168.041, subdivision 10, or a
vehicle registered in another state.
