Legal Question in DUI Law in Minnesota

My son missed his court date for a DUI. A warrant was placed and I brought him to jail and played his $500.00 bail. My son told me that he never received any notification of a court date, so we went to the court house and found that the address of the notification was not correct and the papers with the court date were sent to the wrong residence. I would like to get the money 500.00 back but I was told it will be used to pay the fine, if any, at court. Since the warrant was in error I think that I should get the bail money back.

In most cases, the notice is sent to the last address listed on the driver's license. Each driver is required to keep that information updated. If that did not occur, the driver is at fault for failing to update that information.

At any hearing, a reimbursement of bail can be requested, Whether that occurs is ultimately in the discretion of the Judge.
