Legal Question in DUI Law in Minnesota

Specialty license plates

I purchased a car with my boyfriend and the plates were impounded due to a prior dui violation he had several years ago before I knew him. Do I have to have the special dui plates and if so where do I go to get them?

Re: Specialty license plates

If his name is on the title or lease of the vehicle, the plates must be impounded. The plates are returned to any licensing statiion and special series plates are issued.

Under Minnesota Statutes an impoundment of plateso rder will issue that requires the impoundment of the registration plates of the motor vehicle

involved in the plate impoundment violation and all motor vehicles owned by, registered, or

leased in the name of the violator, including motor vehicles registered jointly or leased in the

name of the violator and another.
