Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and moved from FL to MN a month ago, with the help and blessing of the baby's father. Now he's accusing me of keeping the unborn child from him (a child he isn't even willing to claim prior to a paternity test) and has told me that he will take me to court and get 50/50 custody of the child once born. I don't think that arrangement is tenable with the 1,800 mile distance, especially with a newborn. I'm not trying to keep the child from him, by any means, I just want an arrangement that will actually work with this kind of distance. Does he have a good chance of the court finding in his favor? What should I do to best prepare myself for court?

First, if the child is not yet born, you are the only person who has a say in where you live or what occurs medically. You can relocate at will.
Second, you can refuse to allow the other party any contact unless or until paternity is adjudicated AFTER the child is born.
Finally, once the child is born, the purported father may commence a paternity action and seek custody or parenting time. Those decisions are based on what a court believes to be in the child's best interests at the time.
You should consult with an attorney.
