Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Annul or legally change a 4 months old last name

I have a four month old child. Originally my little boys father was going to be involved in my sons life, so naturally I gave my son his fathers last name. However, my son has not seen his father in over 2 months and it doesn't look like that will be changing any time soon. I'm looking to have my sons last name changed to my last name. Can I annul my sons last name or legally change it to reflect my last name? As a side note: I will be getting child support come January.

You cannot "annul" a name chane. You must seek to change the name a second time and in so doing, the other parent must be notified and may be allowed to object.

Name changes are made based on what is in the best interests of the child.
