Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Broken Engagement - Who owns the ring?

I have a friend in Minnesota. Her fiance just broke off the engagement, saying he never really intended to marry her. When the man breaks off the engagement in Minnesota, who owns the engagement ring? Assuming he never intended to marry her, can the engagement ring be treated simply as a gift due to fraud? Can you provide me with some guidance on doing Minnesota research on the topic. Thanks.

Re: Broken Engagement - Who owns the ring?

My understanding has always been that the ring is a gift. The woman gets to keep it. It's not conditional on the wedding taking place. You don't have to prove fraud or anything like that. The ring is hers.
