Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

My brother said he wrote a check to his ex-wife for child supportshe claimed she did not recieve. He even produced a copy of the cancelled check. It showed the check number, amount, date and the back showed her signature. Problem is, he photoshopped the check to make it look like it was real...it wasn't. So now his ex-wife is pressing charges through the bank. Besides not paying child support, did he do anything else illegal? What sort of reprocussions will he face?
