How old must a child be in Minnesota to decide which parent they want to live with?

A child inever gets to make that decision under Minnesota law. In orer to change custody, there must be a showing that hte child is somehow endangerd physically, emotiionally or developmentally and that hte benefit of the change outweighs the harm.
The court, after a parent meets that threshhold, may weigh the child's desires if the court deems tha child to be of suitable age and maturity. Certainly and older child's opinion will be given greater weight.
