Child Custody

My son has full custody of my 3 yr old grandson. His mother hasn't seen him since he was 3months old and lives in another state. My son recently married. I have been his mother figure since financing and physically helping my son to return to this state almost three yrs ago. if my son should go to jail, on drug related charges, his new wife is knowledgable about my son's behavior, what are the steps I need to take to follow to get my grandson placed in my care?
