Child custody and support

My daughter in law(seperated) is an alcoholic and has mental illness.She has moved to her parents house and keeps the 2 year old there with her against my sons requests for supervision. Her parents are rich and have gotten her out of D.U.I.s hit and runs and she has failed treatment.no job no contribution fro my son having child for 6 mos,raisinh her alone.He is a law student and works 3 jjobs,losing home due to her getting fired from the U of Mn.and no income from her.We are scared for the child In laws lie to my son about their daughters daily condition.What can we do legaly,they are only seperated.They are in Rushford,My son is in St.Paul.We live in Winona.

He would have to file for alegal separation or divorce and , as part of the process, seek a temporary order seeking custody. Such determinations are based on what is in the child's best interests.
