Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Child support end date

Child support is directly taken out of my paycheck. I would like to know more information about the legality of having that stopped when our child turns 18. Do the payments have to go through her senior year of HS? Will I be required to pay if she attends college? I'm sure there are exceptions and circumstances by which each case is unique. I want to learn as much now, so when it comes up, I will be ready.

Re: Child support end date

Minnesota Statutes state that child suport ends when the child reaches the age of 18 or graduates from high school, whichever is later. If the minor does not graduate on time but continues pursuing a course of education to complete high school or a GED, child support continues until that occurs.

There is no obligation to pay support while the child attends college UNLESS the parties made an agreement to that effect that was included in a court order.
