Re: Child support after parental rights are revoked

I am assuming that you are talking about "termination" of parental rights. When something is revoked, that often means something temporary. Termination of parental rights is permanent. Final.

My understanding has always been that termination of parental rights in Minnesota means everything legal is gone - including the child support obligation. The child is also cut off from any inheritance rights he or she might have had from the natural parent whose rights are terminated.

When parental rights are terminated, the parent loses all rights to any contact with or information about the child. With the responsibility there is a substantial package of rights which are lost. Most parents strongly resist any suggestion of such a thing.

This response is for general information purposes only and does not create an attorney-client relationship. You are advised to consult the attorney of your choice concerning the details of your case.
